Charles Joseph Biederman ( American, 1906 - 2004 )
Charles Biederman, in the Constructivist tradition, pioneered the development of what he calls the "Structurist" relief-- planes of color which create spatial and optical effects against a strongly colored ground. In addition to the Constructivists, Biederman drew inspiration from the paintings of Paul Cézanne. Like Cézanne, many of the forms in Biederman's constructions are ultimately derived from those in nature.
