General Description

The following is the caption by Elizabeth McCausland accompanying the original 1939 edition of Berenice Abbott's Changing New York publication.

Headquarters of James G. Blaine in the 1884 presidential campaign, the Murray Hill Hotel was one of the most magnificent examples of hotel architecture of the brown decades. The elegant iron spiral balconies came from the Daniel D. Badger works, but are probably the design of Oscar Luetke, connected with the firm at the time.
