"RCA Victor Special" model phonograph

- designed c. 1937
The streamlined case of the RCA Victor Special conceals what is otherwise an ordinary, if compact, phonograph. Although hardly portable by today's standards, in the late 1930s being able to carry a complete record player in a suitcase-sized case would have been novel and exciting. Driven by a wound spring, the RCA Victor Special could play records inside or outside—wherever the owner chose to present their performance.
