General Description
This scene of a festival event at Atsuta Shrine, with its movement from right to left, is strongly reminiscent of narrative handscrolls of the Kamakura period (1192-1333). Miya was once the largest town between Edo (now Tōkyō) and Kyōto; from there, two highways branched inland, and the Tōkaidō veered over water for 15 miles across Ise Bay.
