Arai: Ferry Boats
Utagawa Hiroshige ( Japanese, 1797 - 1858 )
The large decorated boat at center carries an important daimy__ō (feudal lord), whose attendants follow in a smaller vessel. Arai was the site of another important government barrier station, where travelers were carefully inspected. The station is at the far right in this print.
