General Description
The following is the caption by Elizabeth McCausland accompanying the original 1939 edition of Berenice Abbott's Changing New York publication.
Since the garment manufacturers moved uptown and west in 1917, Seventh Avenue has become the home of skyscrapers, the Garment Tower, the Garment Center and the Fashion Center among them. A Mills Hotel is at the extreme right and the Metropolitan Opera House almost at the end of the street. The tiny low building about in the center of the picture is the former stable of the Wendel mansion on Fifth Avenue.
