Berenice Abbott ( American, 1898 - 1991 )
- 1936, print 1983
The following is the caption by Elizabeth McCausland accompanying the original 1939 edition of Berenice Abbott's Changing New York publication.
Built about 1884 by Arbuckle Bros. for the storage of green coffee, the warehouse nestling under Brooklyn Bridge was sold with the trade name "Yuban" and their entire coffee business, to General Foods, one of the fast cartels of the food industry. It is still used to store green coffee. The roasting is done across the river in Manhattan, for the most part.
