General Description

This extraordinary version of a Postage Stamp quilt is remarkable for the perseverance and expertise of the quilter, Mrs. Riley.... The overwhelming effect of so many tiny pieces in this work, which won first prize in the Iowa State Fair in 1940, prompts a recital of its statistics. Mrs. Riley used 69,649 pieces of fabric and 3,694 yards of thread. She took 425 hours to cut the fabric, spending 1,087 hours over 194 days to complete the entire quilt. Mrs. Riley was both accomplished and prolific--she made over 200 quilts during her lifetime.
