General Description
In this etching, Jean Louis Forain portrays two fashionable young women, arms linked, enjoying an evening on the town. Floating behind them are the glowing gas light fixtures that appear frequently in images of Paris’s theaters, restaurants, and entertainment venues at the turn of the century. Indeed, as its title indicates, the women are heading to the Bal Bullier, a popular dance hall in the Montparnasse neighborhood.
