General Description
In 1963, designer Russel Wright collaborated with manufacturer Yamamoto Porcelain Company and importer Schmid International to produce Theme Formal and Theme Informal, tableware lines with complementary designs, colors, and textures. A statement on elegance, Theme Formal included porcelain, glass, and lacquered Bakelite. The line's high quality porcelain designs feature simple forms, elongated curves, and delicate loop handles and finials. In anticipation of high demand, Yamamoto issued a run of Theme Formal and Theme Informal which debuted in New York in 1965, but the firm preemptively abandoned the line due to dismal response. This example was among the showroom samples.
