General Description
A painter of deliberately naïve sensibility, Mamma Andersson composes domestic scenarios gone awry, as in this haunting image of a couch set on fire within a conventional living room. Replete with everyday details such as a television, pictures on the wall, and discarded shoes on a carpeted floor, this banal setting fosters a dramatic event. The title of the work, Gone for Good, is loaded with ambiguous meaning, and Andersson's deft handling of the viscosity and volatility of mixed-media paint enhances the drama of the scene. Her seemingly simple drawing style creates a sinister atmosphere within the typically comforting and secure habitat of home.
