Allison V. Smith ( American, 1970 )
Allison V. Smith has been making the pilgrimage between Dallas and Marfa four to five times a year for many years. Photographing the land and towns between the two destinations, Smith intently observes line, light, and form found in architecture and nature. Smith’s Marfa series, to which this photograph belongs, displays her interest in small towns and the beauty found in everyday locales. Often unintentionally void of people, Smith’s images are quiet yet redolent of a soundtrack, and are indeed heavily infl uenced by music. They are further imbued with rich and saturated hues, attesting to an intense concern with color that is consistent throughout Smith’s photographic practice.
