The outside of inside
Olafur Eliasson ( Danish, 1967 )
Olafur Eliasson has said that he is interested in provoking a sensation of "seeing yourself seeing." In this installation, our sense of perception is put to the test by a constantly changing field of geometric forms that fade in and out within a subtly defined oval shape with a small reflective steel element at its center. The after-effects of colors play a major role in this work, as forms come together and fade out into what look like three dimensions, and primary colors fade into secondary hues and beyond. Demanding our prolonged engagement, Eliasson's art can instill a greater awareness of our space.
