Sara VanDerBeek ( American, 1976 )
Sara VanDerBeek’s photographs are far more than two dimensional documentary recordings of objects and assemblages. To make her work, VanDerBeek constructs and then photographs small sculptures and collages of found materials. These include pictures from art history books, archives, magazines, and newspapers, as well as materials found in thrift shops and on the street. After photographing her sculptures, VanDerBeek dismantles them, leaving the photograph as the trace evidence of her complex process.
