Encouraging Dialogue

For Students K-12

  • Look carefully at the main figure. What is he doing? Who do you think this might be? What makes you say so?

  • Maya kings commonly associated themselves with the jaguar. They wore jaguar pelts and draped the pelts on their throne. Why do you think a king would want to be like a jaguar? What attributes do they share?

  • The Maya people believed that each person had an animal spirit companion. These protective spirit companions were called forth during Maya rituals. What animal would you want to have as an animal spirit companion? Why?
